LS4 Cooling System

We decided to use a Griffin aluminum radiator on this car. Griffin 6-584CE-BAX is designed for the Fiero and has the same inlet and outlet locations and sizes, but it is not a bolt-in swap. The tanks and core are much wider than the stock rad, so the upper and lower mounts needed to be widened by 1 inch. The extra width leaves no room for the stock cooling fan at the sway bar, so an aftermarket fan from Flex-A Lite was used. Also see how close the lower trans cooler line is to the sway bar.

The coolant fill cap location on the water pump manifold interferes with the passenger side deck hinge. Even with the hinge and hinge box reworked, there is still not enough room there for the filler. The neck was cut off and the resulting hole welded closed, and a small bleeder port drilled and tapped. A 3/4" threaded bung was welded to the same water passage on the water pump manifold. This port will be connected to a remote coolant tank for filling. The newly created air bleed port as well as the air bleed tube from the heads will go to the top of the tank.
