Turbocharged 32 Valve 4.6l V8 Fiero

This is a 1987 Fiero GT with a 1996 Cadillac Northstar 300hp V8 engine installed. A Garrett type T61 turbocharger was installed to increase the horsepower to approximately ***. The exhaust system is fabricated entirely from 304L stainless steel mandrel bent tubing. The catalytic converter is secured with V-band flanges so it can be easily replaced with a stright pipe for racing. The exhaust system and turbo housing are Jet-Hot Sterling ceramic coated (after pictures were taken) for underhood heat reduction and perfomance gains.

A Turbonetics Evolution wastegate controls boost and a Greddy type S blow-off valve prevents compressor surge.

All cold side plumbing is mandrel bent steel and connected with high temp silicone couplers and T-bolt clamps. A PWR barrel intercooler is used to lower the charg air temp.

Because the turbo is mounted so low there is not sufficient slope for the oil to drain back to the engine on it's own. The oil drains out of the turbo into a small vented reservoir directly below, and an electric scavenge pump is used to return the oil to the engine.
The Flojet pump is of a specific design to withstand high temperature oil, and can run dry for extended periods without damage. It has a fan cooled motor for continuous operation and oil resistant viton seals.
The front heat exchanger for the intercooler is from a Supercharged Ford Lightning.

A small Bosch pump to circulates the intercooler coolant to the front of the car through 3/4" polyethylene tubing.
The I/C coolant circulates through a small reservoir which provides a convenient fill point, allows for expansion, and automatically bleeds air from the system as it circulates.
The next few pictures show the strut tower brace that was added where the original firewall and trunk were removed.

Fuel and spark are controlled by a Holley Commander 950 Pro ECU. An Innovate Motorsports LM-1 and wideband oxygen sensor is used for tuning and additional data aquisition. Several air temp sensors are used to monitor and calculate turbo and intercooler efficiency.
The transmission is a new GM 4T65E-HD designed for use with a supercharged 3800. It reqired only slight modification to be used with the Northstar engine. A Thrasher E.P. shift kit was installed. The transmission is controlled by a Powertrain Control Solutions TCU and shift up/down buttons on the steering wheel. It can be operated in manual or automatic modes, as well asa special dyno mode.
